Broad Peak ascent 8051 m – your expedition to the twelfth highest mountain in the world

Welcome to an extraordinary adventure in the heart of the Karakoram Mountains, where the majestic Broad Peak rises – a colossal giant that, at 8,051 meters, is one of the fourteen highest mountains in the world. This imposing peak, which towers on the border between Pakistan and China, has been attracting courageous mountaineers from all over the world for decades. Since its first ascent on June 9, 1957 by an Austrian team, Broad Peak has written numerous stories of triumph and challenge. The first ascenders of Broad Peak were Fritz Wintersteller, Marcus Schmuck, Kurt Diemberger and Hermann Buhl. These four Austrian climbers were the first people to reach the summit of Broad Peak on June 9, 1957. It was a remarkable achievement, especially because they climbed the mountain in alpine style, i.e. without high altitude porters and additional oxygen. Hermann Buhl was already a mountaineering legend at this time, as he had been the first person to climb Nanga Parbat in 1953. Tragically, he died shortly after climbing Broad Peak while attempting to climb the neighboring Chogolisa. From the groundbreaking first winter ascent in March 2013 to Ueli Steck’s breathtaking record ascent in just 20 hours in 2015 – this mountain has redefined the limits of what is possible time and time again.

Our expedition takes you in the footsteps of these pioneers through a landscape of overwhelming beauty. The route to base camp leads over the Baltoro Glacier, past the famous Trango Towers to Concordia Square, where a breathtaking panorama of the world’s highest peaks opens up.

But our journey offers more than just the challenge of the summit. After the ascent, another highlight awaits you: our return route leads over the picturesque Gondogoro-La Pass, making this expedition an unforgettable round trip.

Although Broad Peak is considered one of the “easier” eight-thousanders, it is by no means to be underestimated. With around 425 successful ascents and 21 deaths as of 2019, it reminds us that this is a serious undertaking. Join us on this unique expedition in one of the most impressive and remote mountains on earth, on Broad Peak – the “broad summit” whose kilometer-long, almost slope-free summit plateau gave it its name.

Together up Broad Peak, 8051 m

Broad Peak rises majestically in the Karakoram Mountains and, with its imposing height of 8051 m, is one of the most outstanding peaks in the world. As the twelfth highest mountain on earth, it exerts a strong attraction on adventurers and mountaineers from all over the world. Its characteristic broad summit plateau and snow-covered flanks give it an impressive and imposing presence. Will you join us on this unique expedition?

Day 11-39

Ascent time Broad Peak

Our expedition reaches its climax with the ascent to Broad Peak Basecamp at 4691 m, from where a breathtaking view of K2 and our goal, Broad Peak, opens up. Over the next 28 days, we dedicate ourselves to the challenging ascent of the 8051 m high peak. The route takes us via three high camps: Camp 1 (5850 m), Camp 2 (6200 m) and Camp 3 (7000 m), with the route running through steep flanks, firn ridges and technically challenging passages. The summit day itself is the highlight with a key section in the III degree of difficulty UIAA. After a successful ascent, our descent begins, followed by a spectacular return march over the Gondogoro-La Pass (5650 m). This route takes us via Ali Camp (4945 m) and Chuspang Camp (4673 m) to Saicho Camp (3330 m) and once again offers breathtaking views of the peaks of the Karakoram. The expedition ends with a hike to Hushe (3160 m) and the return to Skardu (2228 m), from where we fly back to Islamabad (507 m). A flexible schedule allows for possible weather delays and offers a day at leisure in the Pakistani capital at the end, unless an alternative return journey via Chilas is required.
