Ice climbing may be the most fascinating aspect of mountaineering. With precise stance on the front spikes of your crampons as well as effort-saving turns of the ice axe, frozen waterfalls, icicles, and even entire passages on bare rock can be mastered. A supreme discipline that demands a great deal of strength, delicacy, and coordination. But climbing frozen water will make you deeply happy, because no route is the same as before and the climbing experience is like nothing else! The perfect offer if you want to experience a new dimension of mountaineering in complete safety, prepare for your first lead on ice or just want to experience an adrenaline-rich adventure.

Basic course – Your start into the world of ice climbing

In 1966, Yvon Chouinard revolutionized the world of ice climbing, thanks to the development of curved picks that allowed alpinists to climb increasingly steep ice walls thanks to the “Piolet Traction”technique. The region around Mont Blanc quickly distinguished itself as a development area for the new materials and as a testing ground for alpine objectives of all difficulties. 60 years later, ice climbing remains a niche discipline that is experiencing increasing popularity among rock climbers and adventure seekers. After all, climbing on ice is very diverse, intense and, most of all, incredibly fun.

Ice climbing should be considered a serious sport that requires some experience in alpine terrain and belaying techniques. An introduction by a qualified person is highly recommended. During this 1-day ice climbing course you may not learn how to climb Icelandic “shrimp” ice, but we will teach you all you need to know to autonomously and safely practice this fascinating sport in the ice climbing crag. Get ready for an incredible adventure into the world of frozen water!
