Along the steel cable, a step closer to the summit
In 1843 the first via ferrata built for tourism was created on the Dachstein in Austria. Through the use of iron pins and steps, as well as a so-called ‘lifeline’, difficult climbing passages could be protected continuously and made somewhat more accessible to non-climbers.
But the history of via ferratas goes back much further:
Ladders and wooden structures similar to via ferratas have been known in the Alps for centuries and served mainly as working routes to open up alpine pastures and hard-to-reach areas, as well as for forestry. The modern via ferrata era begins with the construction of the First World War via ferratas built in South Tyrol and the Dolomites. Today these are increasingly climbed for tourism and enjoy great popularity as an entry point into the climbing world for enthusiasts of every age.
Our via ferrata adventures are planned carefully and full of adventure, so that we can enjoy an unforgettable experience full of breathtaking views, movement and fun on the rock. Some of the cantons where we run our tours are: Ticino, Uri, Bern, Obwalden and many more.
