Along the steel cable, one step closer to the summit
In 1843 the first via ferrata built for tourism was created on the Dachstein in Austria. By using iron pins and rungs, along with a so-called “lifeline”, difficult climbing passages could be protected continuously and made rather more accessible to non-climbers.
But the history of via ferratas goes back much further:
Ladders and wooden constructions resembling via ferratas have been known in the Alps for centuries and mostly served as working routes to open up alpine pastures and hard-to-reach areas, as well as for forestry. The modern via ferrata era begins with the construction of the First World War routes built in South Tyrol and the Dolomites. Today these are increasingly climbed for tourism and enjoy great popularity as an entry into the climbing world for people of all ages.
Our via ferrata adventures are planned by us carefully and full of adventure, so that we can enjoy an unforgettable experience full of breathtaking views, movement and fun on the rock. Some of the cantons where we run our tours are: Ticino, Uri, Bern, Obwalden and many more.
