The ski ascent in the Gran Paradiso National Park par excellence: high-altitude ski tour on the Gran Paradiso (4061 m) with mountain guide
The Valsavarenche, a wonderful valley in the Aosta region, is home to the highest free-standing mountain in Italy, the Gran Paradiso. Together we climb this wonderful mountain on our skis or splitboard, with views as far as the Mont Blanc massif or the sea of Liguria. A two- or three-day high-altitude ski tour that takes us from the parking lot in Pont, through forests, to the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II. A large and cozy hut that is very well known due to its special construction. Above all, the fine cuisine and the fantastic views allow us to recover from the ascent to the valley and the first acclimatization tour. On the first day we can visit the nearby peaks, such as “La Tresenta” at 3609 m, “Becca Di Monsier” at 3509 m or “Becca Di Montandeyne (3822 m).
About the Gran Paradiso ascent: The panorama that can be experienced on the Gran Paradiso high-altitude ski tour is fascinating and extends over the Mont Blanc region and south to the sea in Liguria.
In the middle of this imposing Alpine landscape, you will find one of the most outstanding ski mountaineering tours in the Prealps: the famous ascent of the Gran Paradiso. This route takes you up to 4061 m and includes a short yet fun ridge climb in the II UIAA grade, which leads us to the famous “Madonna summit”. Depending on the conditions, the descent is steep and challenging and ideally runs over the snow-covered “Donkey Ridge Glacier”, the imposing final difficulty below the summit.
About the accommodation in the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele or Rifugio Federico Chabod: culinary variety is the focus in both huts. Because of course the finest pasta specialties are on the menu. This combination of breathtaking peaks and gastronomic delights gives this ski tour a special Italian flair. An adventure that will challenge your senses and enrich you with unforgettable impressions!

Planned schedule of the guided Gran Paradiso climb
Day 1
From the parking lot in Pont, we take a leisurely hike through the woods below the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele and reach our accommodation around midday. We can either check into our four-bed room or continue on a short acclimatization tour that takes us up to La Tresenta, Becca Di Monsier or Becca di Montandeyne. The view rewards our efforts, while a whole series of four-thousand-metre peaks appear in front of us. Now we descend to the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele, where we enjoy a delicious meal and round off the day. Tomorrow we have to get up early and storm the summit!
Day 2
We start our tour towards the summit early in the morning. The flanks get steeper and steeper along the way and the air gets thinner. Thanks to our overnight stay at altitude, we should be well acclimatized today. After the easy ridge climb that leads us to the famous “Gipfel Madonna”, we tackle the long descent back down to the valley. More than 2000 meters of steep descent await us through the glacier, flanks and the final forest that leads us back to Pont. Overjoyed and successful, we end our ascent of the Gran Paradiso, the highest free-standing Italian peak in the Aosta Valley, here.
Day 3 (optional)
If we opt for the 3-day option, we can make the ascent on the second or third day. On the additional day, we can do an acclimatization tour in the area or attempt the summit in case of bad weather. This variant makes it possible to have a reserve day so that the ascent to the summit goes without a hitch!
