Zustieg auf der Urner Haute Route

Planned itinerary of the guided Haute Route

Day 1

Our tour starts in Argentière, France. After distributing our glacier equipment, we first go by cable car to the Croix de Lognan, located at 2000m. From there we continue our ski tour across the Argentière glacier. After a short counter ascent, we finally reach our destination for the day, the Argentière hut, located at 2.760 m above sea level. Here we will spend our first night.

Abfahrt zum Göscheneralpsee

Day 2

Early in the morning we start our ascent to the Col du Chardonnet, at 3.221 meters. The next highlight of our Haute Route is the impressive abseil through the Col, which is about 80 meters long. After this exciting passage, we finally stand on the Saleina glacier and strap on our skis. Our route leads us over the “Fenetre de Saleina” past the Trient hut and on to the “Col des Ecandies”. The vast Val d’Arpette now stretches out before us, which we ski down to Champex with numerous turns. By cab to Le Châble, ascent to the Cabane du Mont Fort at 2.459 m.

Aufstieg Sustenlimmi

Day 3

Our destination for today is Cabane de Valsorey, located at an altitude of 3.030m. We continue our route skiing downhill before climbing up again towards Mont Velan. After an extended climb, we finally turn left to the small hut where we will spend the night tonight, called Cabane du Velan.

Aufstieg Fünfigerstöcke

Day 4

We set off early and dedicate ourselves to the ascent to the Plateau du Couloir, located at 3.650 m above sea level. The further we climb, the steeper the terrain becomes, so we have to put on our crampons and stow the skis safely on the backpack. After a short descent, we reach the Col du Sonadon, at 3.504 meters. The descent that now leads us to Cabane de Chanrion, at 2.462 m, is a true dream for ski tourers! Here we let the day end comfortably at the hut.

Abfahrt nach Engelberg

Day 5

We climb gently over the Breney glacier and finally reach the summit of the Pigne d’Arolla, which rises to 3.796 meters. The breathtaking view from up here of the surrounding glaciers and mountain peaks is undoubtedly one of the most impressive experiences to be enjoyed on the Haute Route. After our descent from Pigne d’Arolla, we tackle the approximately 600 meters of altitude gain to reach Cabane des Vignettes, located at 3.158 meters above sea level. This hut is undoubtedly considered one of the most beautiful and picturesque in the entire Alps and will be our “home” today.

Abfahrt zum Göscheneralpsee

Day 6

The last stage of the Haute Route takes us over the Collon Glacier to the Col de l’Évêque, at 3.395m. From here we enjoy a magnificent descent in wide sweeps down to 2.900 m and then make our way opposite to the Col du Mont Brulé. Crossing the Tsa de Tsan glacier, we reach the Col de Valpelline and climb up to the Tête Blanche. A breathtaking descent awaits us, taking us past the imposing Dent d’Hérens and the majestic Matterhorn to end in Zermatt. Here, for the first time, it’s time to stop and drink to the success of the Haute Route!
