Climbing in Arco and the Valle Del Sarca – Your climbing vacation in Trento
A detailed introduction for climbing enthusiasts is not necessary for Arco. The region is considered one of the hotspots for sport climbing in Italy and for good reason! Arco is not only quickly accessible from Switzerland (about 5 hours drive), but also offers hundreds of climbing crags and about 5,000 routes of every exposure, grade and approach length in a very small area. Here you can reach your climbing goals in the compact limestone of Arco, whether it’s increasing your onsight level, climbing cleanly on lead, or fun multi-pitch routes with gorgeous views of the Valle Del Sarca.
The area around Arco is characterized by stable weather conditions, renowned Italian cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to linger in the evening with an Aperol Spritz and a delicious pizza at the Osteria. On site, you’ll be mentored by an experienced climbing instructor to take your climbing career to the next level. Not only will you experience a week of lake views and climbing in some of the most beautiful crags in Northern Italy, but you’ll also experience a special kind of sport and multi-pitch climbing in the picturesque Valle Del Sarca. Thanks to an experienced climbing instructor you will be supervised on the spot as you wish. Thus, you will not only experience a week with lake views and climbing in the most beautiful climbing crags of northern Italy, but also accelerate your climbing career to the next level.
A special week of sport and multi-pitch climbing in the most beautiful climbing crags of the Valle Del Sarca!
About the history of Arco: The beginnings of sport climbing in Arco date back to the 1970s, when the route “Umberta Bertamini” was climbed on the local mountain Monte Colodri. This paved the way for the opening of the first route with a single bolt called “Specchio delle mie Brame” in 1982, which was developed by Roberto Bassi and Heinz Mariacher. It was only in the 1980s that the first short climbing routes oriented to sport climbing were created, such as “Honky Tonky”, which was the first of its kind to be completely equipped with bolts. From then on, the development wave in the entire Sarca Valley became explosive, including Monte Casale, Cima Delle Coste and Colodri.
The international climbing scene subsequently became aware of the region around Arco, which led to further developments, also by well-known climbers from the German and Swiss scene such as the Remy brothers and Wolfgang Güllich. Arco is therefore not only an Italian climbing mecca, but also a place that has actively contributed to the history of the development of sport climbing.
