A Ski and Sail experience between the bays of the majestic Lyngen Alps and the fascinating Senja Alps in winter is something unforgettable. We combine the joy of ski touring and splitboarding with the beauty of the Norwegian coastal landscape and its wildest bays. We spend a week on a sailing ship and start our ski tours in search of the best deep snow directly from the drop off point on the beach! With a little luck we can also admire the magic of the Northern Lights. An adventure in the far north of Norway for enthusiastic ski tourers!

Ski and Sail in Norway, between Senja and the Lyngen Alps – Ahoi Captain!

The mountain ranges in the far north of Norway, between Senja and the Lyngen Alps offer every winter the best conditions for challenging descents with fjord views and glacier landscapes. The best way to explore these fjords at your own pace is a Ski and Sail trip, where we welcome a sailing ship as our “home” for a week. With us on our “book exploration” are an experienced captain and his small crew, who accompany us with the best food and tips on the descents every day. An experienced mountain guide searches with us the best descents and accompanies us daily on the ski tours with sea view. The views are hard to beat, because with a little luck we can sight marine animals such as whales, as well as the famous northern lights that will dance over our sailing ship at night if the sky is clear.

First, we sail through the Lyngen Alps, which are also known as the most spectacular mountain landscape in Norway, reaching altitudes of up to 1,800 meters. The descents continue down to sea level with constant slopes, which means: get off the sailing boat in the morning, put on your skis and only take them off again when you reach the coast again. The rugged mountain slopes of Lyngen are partly criss-crossed by glaciers. For example, Jiehkkevárri is the highest mountain in the area, rising 1,834 meters into the sky from the Lyngenfjord and making for a rewarding ski tour. Other interesting descents can be found in the Ullsfjord and Sorfjord areas. Typical ascents in the area are between 4 and 9 km long and take between 4 and 8 hours. The slope gradients are mostly below 25-30 degrees over glacier plateaus, but there is the possibility of reaching slopes of up to 40 degrees of powder snow if we opt for gorges and steeper downhill variants.

The Senja Alps, a little further east, are part of the larger island of Senja, which, in contrast to the Lyngen Alps, has somewhat lower peaks. Nevertheless, there are also unique views and downhill skiing opportunities in the best deep snow, as well as first-class sailing opportunities.

In the evening we enjoy the tranquility of the sea in the selected bay, in an intimate atmosphere we joke with like-minded people about the beautiful experienced ski day and enjoy another glass of wine with a view of the northern lights.

On „First Line“ Chase in the high north of Norway

In the Tromso area you will not only find pristine slopes and powder snow at its best, but also a unique sailing experience, food at its best and dream views of the fjords and the sea.

Planned schedule of the Ski and Sail trip to the Tromso area

Segelboot Norwegen

Day 1

Arrival from Zurich or Milan by plane. If desired, we can also organize a train journey. We fly via Oslo to Tromsö, where we are taken directly to the sailing harbor.

Day 2-7

Every day we alternate sailing sections of 2-3 hours with sweet tours directly from the jetty or from the beach, which we reach by service boat. On good weather days we naturally prefer ski touring to sailing, whereas bad weather days are ideal for covering longer distances and allow us to climb the most challenging lines and peaks.

Day 8

Sailing back to Tromso, short city tour and return flight to Switzerland
