Ski touring trips on the Lofoten Islands, Norway – between ocean descents and the northern lights

The mountain ranges in the far north of Norway, in the Lofoten archipelago, offer the best conditions for challenging descents with fjord views every winter. The best way to explore these peaks is on a ski touring trip on the Lofoten Islands. An experienced mountain guide selects the best descents with us and accompanies us daily on the ski tours with sea views. The views are hard to beat, because with a bit of luck we may even spot marine animals such as whales, as well as the famous Northern Lights, which will dance above our heads at night if the sky is clear.

First we reach the Lofoten Islands, for example from Svolvaer, a very worthwhile destination. The mountain landscapes are considered the most spectacular in Norway and are known for their incredible touring opportunities. The descent from the peaks often continues down to sea level with constant slopes, which means: put your skis on in the morning and only take them off again when you reach the coast. The rugged mountain slopes of the Lofoten offer the right experience for every level, from easy tours to alpine tours with climbing passages. For example, we will visit renowned ski tours such as Vågan, Geitgaljartind, Narvikfjellet, Rundfjellet, just to mention a few possibilities! On the Lofoten Islands, there is always the possibility of reaching powder snow slopes of up to 40 degrees, should we opt for gullies and steeper downhill variants.

In the evening, we enjoy the peace and quiet of our accommodation while the northern lights dance above our heads. We joke with like-minded people about the wonderful day’s skiing and enjoy a glass of wine before calling it a day.

Hunting for "First Lines" in the Lofoten archipelago

In this area of Norway, you will not only come across untouched slopes and deep powder snow at its finest, but also the Northern Lights, food at its best and dream views of the fjords and the sea.

Day 2-7

Every day we look for exciting ski tours with the best snow and views of the sea, from 700 to 1500m, depending on the conditions and level of all participants. The areas around Narvik and Evenes are ideal for this. Each ascent is followed by a fun descent down to sea level! Our mountain guides know the area like the back of their hands and know exactly where the best descents are! In the evening, we stop off at the local “rorbuer”, a type of reddish accommodation also known as a fisherman’s hut.
